Teacher Snapshot 1

TEACHER: If you see X and Y, you have a Muslim girl and a Christian girl and they’re the best of friends. Both from Iraq. Those values, I think they’re slowly…becoming a side issue with some of the older ones now. They value more the community and fellow students and getting along with them. And with the younger ones I find you teach them and they’re quite open to suggestions of including other students in their games. The classic issue again was with a group of Arabic-speaking students, because A is from Egypt he just didn’t fit the right box, the right sort of Arab. So I just hinted to some of them that they should be more inclusive and they said to him “come and join us”. Because he was from Egypt they thought he didn’t fit their group. They’re quite open to suggestions though.
