Topic 2: Perceptions of Australians & the Other
Extending upon some key issues in Theme 1: Identity, belonging and students’ stories, this topic explores the perceptions Arabic-speaking background students have of students from other ethnic backgrounds. Some teachers find that “them” and “us” labels vanish when students are able to personalise “the other”, through direct contact with someone from another cultural background.
