Parent Snapshot 1
ARABIC-SPEAKING BACKGROUND PARENT: I tell my children, if someone makes a racist remark, or if they feel their teacher is a racist, or something, stand hard for that, and if she can’t defend herself, can’t explain her point what’s going on, she call me and I’ll do it. You know, this is very important. I teach my children always like that. I teach that in Australia, you have to be proud to be Australian, this is the country, it doesn’t matter blue eyes or green eyes, or whatever, you know? My children, you know, I just tell them, to be Australian doesn’t mean you have to come from English or something. … My children know that, and also to respect other cultures, especially Aboriginal culture. You know, this is really important.
