ARABIC STUDENT: If you're going to live here you should, like, you should follow the rules of here but (moves to speak in Arabic) we just can't take everything as a package because we have our religion. We should take the good Australian values, without abandoning our ways.

FEMALE STUDENT: …with my family, my mum thinks that school is actually corrupting me because when I go home I don’t speak like Arabic and that. And she wants me to speak full Arabic. And she always says that school’s corrupting me. And she always wants me to go to Arabic school to learn Arabic.
FEMALE STUDENT: Yeah, that’s the same as my family.
FEMALE STUDENT: … my parents want me to go to [Arabic Saturday language classes] – they want me to learn because they think I don’t know nothing about it. I do but I just don’t show them. Like, because I don’t know how to write Arabic and read Arabic they think I don’t know nothing.
